Beijing E-Town Semiconductor Co., LTD (“BEST”) is a semiconductor equipment company registered in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. In May 2016, BEST (through Beijing E-Town Capital) acquired Mattson Technology Inc. (“Mattson”), a semiconductor equipment company headquartered in Silicon Valley in the US, for a total price of approximately US$300 million. This was the first case in which China capital was used to successfully acquire an international semiconductor equipment corporation.

Mattson was founded in Silicon Valley in 1988, with R&D and manufacturing centers in the United States and Germany. Mattson primarily provides equipment and solutions for the Dry Strip, Dry Etch, Rapid Thermal Processing (“RTP”) and Millisecond Anneal (“MSA”) markets to 300 mm wafer customers, worldwide. BEST’s Dry Strip, RTP and MSA equipment are among the top three supplied in each of their respective segments, and its major customers include all top ten manufacturers of integrated circuits. In 2009, Mattson introduced the paradigmE series of etching equipment, and now has more than 100 units in mass production at the most advanced memory factories in the world. Mattson has over 300 patents and maintains a strong technical team.

BEST’s acquisition of Mattson, provided Mattson with the additional resources needed to compete with its larger competitors in the industry. With a new management team, led by Dr. Allen Lu as its CEO, Mattson was able to focus on a market-oriented and international development path, maintain its competitiveness in the international market, and accelerate the integration of the fast-growing Chinese semiconductor industry. With the leadership of BEST, Mattson’s equipment has entered the world’s most advanced foundry manufacturing at 5 nm and 7 nm production lines, while also acquiring production orders in the most advanced 3D NAND and DRAM production lines. Additionally, BEST equipment has been fully developed in the 300 mm production line of major domestic customers.

The new management team focuses on shaping a new corporate internal culture centered on “fairness, ethics, responsibility, and transparency;” increasing investment in new product research and development; accelerating the continuous improvement of our existing products; and actively suporting new customers and new applications. Since 2016, the Company’s business has grown significantly. The Company continues on a development track.

In order to serve the development of China’s semiconductor industry better, BEST is fully promoting the comprehensive implementation of manufacturing, R&D and sales in China. The Company is located at 28-8, No.2 Jinghai Road, Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, with a total construction area of 4,500 square meters. The clean room was cleaned and renovated in June 2018. The first equipment will be assembled and tested in the new plant in September 2018. At the same time, Dry Etch, Dry Strip, and RTP equipment will be built to provide application development services to domestic customers more closely and efficiently. The Beijing factory has a total of 10 assembly test stations, which can produce more than 100 tools per year. After the completion of the Beijing plant, BEST will provide comprehensive services such as domestic manufacturing, research and development, training and support services for Chinese chip factory customers.

BEST will continuously maintain its global competitiveness, introducing new products for process applications with the most advanced technology nodes; fully integrating into the Chinese semiconductor equipment ecosystem; becoming a long-term and reliable partner for China’s semiconductor manufacturing customers; and accelerating the development of China’s semiconductor equipment industry.
